Location : Kogatende Area

Northern Serengeti turns into a wildlife paradise par excellence. Through June, July and August the wildebeest continue moving through the area, crossing and re-crossing the Mara River before heading north towards the Masai Mara. Several large herds remain behind and weather changes could easily bring the vast herds flooding back into the area from the Mara. Migration and predator action lasts up to the end of October, assuring this area’s reputation as one of the finest wildlife areas in Africa.

Seasons

Serengeti Tanzania Bush Camps – Northern Serengeti (July-October) is the ultimate seasonal camp in Serengeti National Park, inside touching distance of the Mara River in the heart of the best game viewing area of the Northern Serengeti. Here, in this enormous remote wilderness, almost double the size of the Masai Mara, guests can enjoy fabulous landscapes and tremendous game viewing with practically no crowds. Resident wildlife numbers are remarkably high, with prides of lion, but nothing compared to when the migration starts arriving from June onwards.

Mara River Camp

With the approaching dry season, the Serengeti landscape becomes more arid. This is mating season, and the massive wildebeest herds begin moving faster in search of water and greener grass, making their way across the Grumeti and Mara rivers. Nile crocodiles find easy pickings during these high-drama times.

Mara River Camp

August sees the wildebeest herds crossing the crocodile-infested waters of the Mara River in the Serengeti or Masai Mara in a constant search for green grass. Mobile safari camps put you in the very best position to see these high-adrenaline river crossings right up close.

Mara River Camp

The dry season continues in September, and you can see the tail end of the epic Mara River crossings in the Serengeti or Masai Mara. Most of the herds are now feeding on the lush grasslands in the Greater Masai Mara area.

Mara River Camp

And they’re off again: October sees the wildebeest herds in the Masai Mara begin to slowly migrate back into the Serengeti, moving through Loliondo in the east. Base yourself in the Masai Mara for your best viewing opportunities this month.
